About the movie

The Hunt for Meral Ö. is based on gripping, true events surrounding the Child Benefit Scandal. Meral Öztürk becomes desperate when the Tax Authorities wrongly demand a huge refund of €34.000 in childcare allowance. Despite her protests, her entire salary from home care is seized from one day to the next.

As her life falls apart, she discovers that a social investigator is infiltrating her life and interfering increasingly intrusively with her private life – ranging from a car tracker and surveillance to a threatening house search for 'unregistered relationships'.
