Loss and grief

As you get older, you will unfortunately increasingly have to deal with loss in your life. For example, the loss of your partner, a family member or an acquaintance. But it may also be that your health is deteriorating. Or that you have to say goodbye to a house where you lived happily for years or to a pet that you cared about very much. That is difficult!

Talking about your loss with your family or friends, if you have any, can help you cope. But sometimes you need more or different help. For information, contact with the neighborhood team in your district.

Ask for help

The neighbourhood team is happy to help you during this difficult time. We will listen to your story and see how we can support you. We can also refer you to specialist help, such as a grief therapist or a support group, if necessary. In such a group with other people who have also lost someone or something, you can talk about your sadness, fear or anger. You don't have to do it alone! Call, email or come by at the neighborhood team in your district. We are happy to assist you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Grief takes a lot of energy. You often get very tired from it. Other complaints that you can get from grieving are: headaches, sleep problems, less appetite and difficulty keeping your attention on things.

Everyone grieves differently. You may experience different feelings such as sadness, loneliness, anger, anxiety, fear and dissatisfaction. What makes it extra hard is that life often continues as usual for the people around you. That also hurts.

  • Accept your feelings and give your pain space
  • take enough rest
  • Seek support from people around you, talk about it with others
  • Do not numb yourself with alcohol, medication or anything else
  • Try to exercise enough, preferably outside
  • Seek professional help if necessary
