Coping with illness

Dealing with illness can be quite difficult at times. It is not only unpleasant to be ill, but it can also be annoying to have to ask for help. However, there are often people around you who are willing to help you if you ask for it. In addition, there are many organizations and schemes that can support you. For example, you can get help via:

  • wlz for when you need care day and night.
  • Wmo in case you need practical help.
  • Informal care Utrecht for practical information for caregivers.
  • Integrated Childcare Network Utrecht vfor families with a seriously ill child.
  • The district nursing for example for taking medication, showering or putting on support stockings. For district nursing in your area, look for example at the care cardt.

You will find much more information in the frequently asked questions below.

Help from a neighborhood team

The neighbourhood team in your district will be happy to help you find the right help. Together with you, we will look at what you need and where you can get that help. We will also see if you can be helped by people close to you. If you want, we can also put you in touch with people who are in the same situation. We are also happy to support you in your contact with the municipality, your health insurer or other organisations. Find a neighborhood team in your neighborhood and look for good help together!

Frequently asked questions

If you need help at home, for example getting out of bed, showering or taking medication, you can ask the district nurse to help you. You can request this via your GP or neighbourhood team or you can contact the district nurse yourself.

If you need care 24 hours a day and you expect that this care will be needed permanently, you may be able to use the Long-term Care Act (Wlz). You can apply for this care via the CIZ. Need help? The neighborhood team is happy to help you.

You can get practical help under the Social Support Act (Wmo). For example: help with household chores, home aids or a regional taxi pass. You can apply for this at municipality of Utrecht. Please note: sometimes you have to pay a small amount to the Wmo yourself. Need help? Contact the neighborhood team in your neighborhood
