FAQ

Special primary education (SBO) is intended for pupils with learning, behavioural or upbringing questions. At an SBO school, the groups are smaller, there are fewer stimuli and there are more guidance options. There is also extra knowledge available in the field of learning, behavioural and upbringing questions.

Special education (SO) is intended for children who need more attention and support. This includes children who are physically or mentally handicapped and children with psychological or behavioral problems. They receive the guidance they need at these special primary and secondary schools.

There is special education (SO) for four types of students:

  1. Blind and partially sighted students.
  2. Deaf and hard of hearing students and students with serious speech difficulties or other communication problems.
  3. Pupils with physical and/or mental disabilities. These may be children who have one or more disabilities, have great difficulty learning or are chronically ill.
  4. Students with (serious) behavioral problems and/or psychiatric problems.
  1. Often you will first talk to the person who teaches your child. Together you will look at how you can best help your child.
  2. If that is not sufficient, the school's internal supervisor (IB'er) or care coordinator will be involved to see how your child can be helped.
  3. If more is needed, the next step is to have an expert from outside the school take a look. Together with this person and the school, a plan is made on how your child can stay at their own school with the right support.
  4. If that is not sufficient, an admissibility statement for special education can be requested.
